Tanya Sen is a classically-trained soprano with a repertoire including opera, jazz, musical theatre and contemporary music in 14 European and Asian languages.
She has performed as a solo recitalist in venues across Singapore, UK, India, UAE & USA. In Singapore, she has also produced and directed concerts at venues such as the Esplanade Concert Hall, the Esplanade Recital Studio and the Tanglin Club - often featuring established as well as up-and-coming local artists. Many of these concerts were in support of local charities (raising up to $250k at a time) and were presided by guests of honour such as Former Presidents Halimah Yacob and SR Nathan.
Some of Tanya's recent live projects include performing as a featured soloist in "When Nations Meet" (a concert of Belgian music presented by the Philharmonic Wind Orchestra), directing and performing in "Traveller's Songbook" (a concert of songs from around the world in support of the Viva Foundation) and acting in "The 39 Steps" (a comedy play with The Stage Club Singapore).
Her recording projects include "Desi Flavours", an album of Indian and Western fusion tracks (2023), "Travels from Home", a video project of fusion mixes of songs from around the world (2021-22), and "An Evening of Schubert Lieder", a set of Schubert recordings for voice and piano (2017).
Tanya has also been a member of music ensembles in various cities such as Scherzo (an opera collective), the Oxford Gargoyles (jazz a-capella) and Polar Vortex (a Latin & classic rock fusion band). She also won several music awards during her student days including Dubai Channel 4 Radiostar Winner, the UAE Best of the Best Vocal Competition Overall Winner, Finalist for the Young Musicians of the Gulf Award, Winner of the UK Voice Festival with her a-cappella group the Oxford Gargoyles, and Stirling Boyd Prize for Overall Contributions to Trinity College, in particular to music.
Tanya received voice training in the Western opera tradition at the University of Oxford (UK), University of Pennsylvania (USA) and at the Bel Canto Institute (Italy); and method acting training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute (USA). Previously, she also trained in the Hindustani Classical vocal tradition.
Tanya balances her music projects alongside her work as a private equity investment professional in Singapore. She also plays guitar, keys and drums, and enjoys dance in styles including Indian Classical (Bharatanatyam) and salsa.
